- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the caramel glaze: 1/2 cup unsalted butter, 1 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup milk, 2 cups powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Whisk flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl. Set aside.
- Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in applesauce and vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Pour batter into the pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
- For the glaze: Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and milk. Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat. Whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Pour over cooled cake.
