- 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 8 cups)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and place the bread cubes in it.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Pour the mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down to soak them evenly.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix brown sugar and melted butter, then drizzle over the casserole.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use stale bread for better texture.
- You can add chopped nuts or fruit before baking.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
