- 2 ripe pears, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt 1/4 cup butter in a skillet, add brown sugar, and stir until dissolved. Arrange pear slices in the mixture.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture.
- Pour batter over pears in the skillet. Bake for 40 minutes.
- Cool for 10 minutes, then invert onto a plate.
Notes
- Use firm pears for best results.
- Let cake cool slightly before inverting.
